The College of Architecture and Construction Management will host our second edition of the ACCI Summer Academy for high school students June 4-8, 2018 on the Marietta campus as a part of our Community Outreach Program.

In this fourth year of the ACCI Summer Academy, two one-week-long camps will be offered, including the one-year-old Academy in partnership with the College of Architecture and Construction Management on the Marietta Campus of Kennesaw State University.

"A small house for young professionals" will provide a common theme for the academies. We will explore design approaches that focus on necessity and affordability in the context of the emerging realm of minimal housing environments. Architects, engineers and educators will facilitate discussion and learning opportunities for the students as we develop concepts, designs, and final representations (both drawings and models) of proposed solutions.

The Academy at the KSU Marietta campus will include tours of STEM labs and building facilities, and we will visit the IKEA Store in Midtown to get a feel for the small house layouts and furniture scaled to fit small spaces. Under the supervision and tutelage of two KSU Architecture professors and at least one KSU student in the architecture professional program, students will be working in design teams to develop their visions for a small affordable house. Visiting Architects, Engineers, and Educators will facilitate discussion and learning opportunities for the students as we develop concepts, designs, and final representations (drawings / models) of proposed solutions.
