About this Event
Backward Course Design and Constructive Alignment
Event Type: Virtual
Facilitator: Laura Howard
Are you designing or redesigning a lesson or a course and wondering where to start? “Backward design” offers an evidence-based, step-by-step method that simplifies the design process (Wiggins and McTighe, 1998). Backward course design leads to more transparent and inclusive teaching, which promotes a sense of belonging in the classroom. Backward design helps faculty develop intentionality by emphasizing the purpose of each assignment and class activity. In this workshop, participants will learn the three stages of backward design and strategies for implementing it in their teaching now and in the future. Backward design is appropriate for all teaching modalities.
