It is easy to think of video gaming as a disembodied or non-physical activity, and therefore it is easy to dismiss the human body in discussions of gaming, esports, and competition. This presentation brings forth several examples from Korean esports - one of the most competitive and active esports scenes in the world - that demonstrate how central the human body is to the conversation. 

 

Dr. Keung Yoon Bae is Assistant Professor of Korean Studies at the School of Modern Languages, Georgia Tech. Her research examines the relationship between media production and the state in Korea, specifically looking at imperial regulation of colonial Korean cinema. In addition, she has published articles and chapters on webcomics and Korean esports.
