Refreshing Your Course(s) for Spring: An Overview of the Backward Course Design Process

Facilitator: Tris Utschig

As the fall term nears an end, it is a great time to refresh your course plans for spring. “Backward design” offers an evidence-based, step-by-step method that simplifies the design process (Wiggins and McTighe, 1998). This workshop offers an opportunity to be intentional about advancing your ideas for continuous improvement in your teaching. Backward course design leads to more transparent and inclusive teaching, which promotes a sense of belonging in the classroom. Backward design is appropriate for all teaching modalities.
