About this Event
Add to calendarHappy spring, Owls! Join the Office of Sustainability on another stroll through the beautiful forest that makes up KSU’s arboretum! Established in 1976, the arboretum preserves the original forested area. Last season we focused on characteristics of a deciduous forest within the Piedmont, while also highlighting some of our native species and evergreens. This season, we shift our focus to the first budding trees in our ecosystem with a strong emphasis on spring ephemerals. Preserving ephemerals within our ecosystems is important because in our Georgia forests, spring ephemerals are plants that employ a light maximization strategy. While tree branches are still devoid of foliage in early spring, during March and April, ephemerals make the most of available sunlight reaching the forest floor before the magnificent tree canopy leafs out and obscures most of the sunlight. All KSU students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend!
