 cademics hope to find a wide audience for their work\, writing for the pub
 lic can prove challenging to writers deeply embedded in the complexities o
 f their fields. According to author James M. Lang\, faculty who would like
  to write for more public audiences can draw upon their pedagogical knowle
 dge to create better learning experiences for readers. This approach draws
  lessons from Lang’s work as a book series acquisition editor\, his mult
 iple books aimed at general academic audiences\, and his dozens of publish
 ed magazine and newspaper essays. Participants will be introduced to a sma
 ll set of principles and models that have been used by academic writers wh
 o have written successful trade books and built strong public platforms. D
 uring this interactive workshop with Dr. James Lang\, they will also have 
 the opportunity to apply some of the workshop’s principles to their own 
 current or future projects and raise any questions they might have about t
